KARTELL, founded in 1949, is one of the first companies in Europe to use plastic materials for industrial production.

At the end of the 1950s, the evolution in technological design & experimentation leads to the creation of the KARTELL Labware Division for the supply of technical articles for laboratories. By producing Laboratory products from materials such as polypropylene, polystyrene, polyethylene, KARTELL introduce plastic as a valid alternative to glass due to its lightness, strength, economy and safety.

In the present day KARTELL now use over 40 different plastic materials, conducting research on plastic materials & properties, identifying the most suitable plastic for each individual product based on its intended application.
